Weekend Highlights

Ah, back from the weekend.  As I mentioned Friday, I am a HUGE fan of falling back for Daylight Saving.   Yes it’s dark when I leave work, but I usually go to the gym at the end of the workday, anyways, so it doesn’t really bother me.  But that extra hour in the morning is magical.  At least for the first week.

I digress.  So this weekend I fell pretty hard into the Gap, doing some minor retail demage.  Picked up this little number:

Because if a polka dot chambray shirt wasn’t at the top of things I needed, it sure hell was at 3:30 on Saturday.  (I am full-on obsessed with this top, and plan on wearing it way too often.)  I also found some awesomely bright work pants and a few other sale items I needed to spruce things up in the closet area.  I also upped my candle inventory at B&BW, but otherwise escaped pretty unscathed.

After my wallet workout, I had a little girls night with my best friend and my mom, paying a visit to our salon for their first Customer Appreciation Night.  (A chance to win some free hair products and free wine is all it takes to get me anywhere, obvi.)  Plus with the biff being knocked up, I’ve always got one adorable little DD!

Oh I can’t wait to spoil that child…

Thanks to my mom for reminding us it was happening this weekend!

Isn’t she adorable?  Seriously, my mom never ceases to impress me with her sense of style.  And those TJ Maxx genes are much appreciated.

Although we had a great time chatting and sipping on our cocktails, I have to say the highlight of the night came in the form of… well…

A highlight.

Yes… this happened. I’ve been secretly wanting a pink stripe in my hair, and after spending much of my angsty high school years dying my hair pretty much every color of the rainbow, I think a part of adult me has always missed that.  So this is about as close as I’ll ever get to it again.  But not only did I get one, but so did Mary.  Oh…

And so did my mom :)

What did I tell you?  The woman has a great sense of style.

(Thanks to our awesome stylist Karra for hooking us up!  We love you!)

Things I Like This Week

Oh hey there, Wednesday/Friday.
Weeeeeeee!

I’m a little excited.

So since you’re probably about to get pimp-slapped with copious amounts of wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving dinners (unless you’re a neighbor up north, and in that case, you already had your tryptophan fun), I decided to not do a recipe post today. Instead, let’s keep things light.

Alrighty then.
So I started doing this thing with my hair when I don’t feel like blow drying it for 45 minutes, or I am attempting to mask the fact that I haven’t washed it for a few days. And the funny thing is people started complimenting me on it. And in over-sharing-Jess fashion, I explained to them, “Oh, this? Thanks, I just haven’t washed my hair in a couple days!” But after the few pleasant comments, I decided that maybe I should like… actually wear my hair like this sometimes on purpose. So if you’re looking for different and fairly easy new do, I present to you:

The braid bun.

If you can French braid, this take approximately 3 minutes to do.

1. Braid your hair into pigtails.
2. Gather ends of pig tails and tuck them in behind the braided hair near the nape of your neck.
3. Secure with bobby pins.
4. Grab your hairspray and spritz spritz spritz.

See? Easy. And if you can’t french braid, you could still just braid the length of your hair and do the same thing, just without the braids down the side.

On to trend number 2. So I have this urge to wear lots of clothes lately, and all at once. I’m obsessed.

Could there be a more perfect example?

Yes, it’s true, I love layers. Partially because my body temperature is as hot and cold as a middle school romance. Once minute I’m sweating, the next my appendages are numb, it’s maddening. Also, I just think it looks really chic. 2 little suggestions: pair items that compliment each other (don’t force it) and skinny belts around your waist are your best friend.

Also, try to avoid looking like you’re picking a wedgie. That’s totally optional though.

And lastly… non-style related, I am soaking up every last second of the beautiful colors that are spattered along the streets and sidewalks, that make this my absolute favorite season. I literally shudder when I think of snow, and if I could boycott Mother Nature, I would. Fall is one of the things I love most about Pennsylvania.

The second best thing, of course, being that the Office takes place here.

I hope all of you celebrating Thanksgiving have a lovely weekend with your families and lots of unbutton-your-pants-good food. And if not, I promise to eat enough for the both of us. But just because I love you.

xoxo

Give It Away Now

Happy Friday! Is it me or was this a long week? Thankfully it’s about over.

Wine me. ASAP.

So because it’s Friday, and I have something super exciting and wonderful planned for this weekend, and because I just love you all so much…

I decided to do my very first GIVEAWAY!

Yippee! Hooray!

So here’s the deal: one lucky reader will win 2 of the products I told you about in yesterday‘s post:

1. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Blue Me Away! (or if you want to pick another color that’s available at my local store, I’m willing to work with you.)

and

2. Organix Renewing Moroccan Argan Oil

Yeah, I know I left out the curling wand which would probably be the most exciting, but I’m cheap y’all. Also I may or may not be thinking about doing a video tutorial on how to use a regular curling iron to get similar effects. But don’t hold me to this because there’s a good chance I’ll chicken out.

So how do we enter to win, Jess?

I’m glad you asked. All you have to do is leave a comment. Tell me what you’re excited to do this weekend. Hell, tell me your shoe size. Whatever you like. However if you want to tell people that you, like, love my blog and that they should like, follow me on twitter and stuff, well then you’ve earned a special place in this little heart of mine. But unfortunately, these things will only increase your chances of being my bff.

The winner will be chosen by 12 noon on Sunday, so make sure you leave your comment before then. (Cause after that I’ll be gettin’ my Fantasy Football on, and mentally preparing for a game against our division rival of all rivals, the Cowgirls. So. Much. Stress.)

Good luck and enjoy the weekend!
