The Higher the Hair…

Despite being a born’n'raised East Coast girl, I LOVE me some big Texas-sized hair.  Unfortunately, my hair is more fine and frizz-prone than luxurious and voluminous.  I tease the bejesus out of it and add all kinds of root sprays and volumizing products, just so for a few hours I can feel a little like Mary Tyler Moore.  (Nick at Nite, anyone?)

A few weeks ago I was asked to try some products by Michael O’Rourke (creator of Big Sexy Hair) and I actually said yes.  Honestly, I’m not a big fan of reviews because I feel like I won’t be able to be honest if I hate the products, and I work in advertising for a living, so I try to separate that world from my little blog world.  HOWEVER.  I do write about a lot of beauty products as it is, and I’m sorry but anything called “Rock Your Hair” is a little tough for this girl to pass up.*

Plus they’ve got rhinestones on them.  *Swoon.*

RYH gem

I received a large box containing a slew of products, all promising to help me achieve the sky-high-locks I crave so badly.

RYH All

I figured I’d be getting some puny little sample packets, but they were bringing their A-Game, y’all.

RYH 4

The shampoo and conditioner were ok, but the shampoo didn’t quite lather as much as I’d like, and those bottles were actually pretty small.  But THESE guys…. oh man.  I am in love.

The Bombshell Big Hair Powder is my hands-down fave.  You sprinkle the tiniest amount into your roots and BLAM!  It’s magic.  We are talking like serious volume.  I will fo sho be buying this when it runs out.

The Size Matters Big Volume Root Lift is good, but I always forget to use it when my hair is still damp, so I’m not really sure what the effect would be there.  But for now, I use it on dry hair when I don’t want the massive height the powder gives me and it definitely helps.

The Spray It Hard Hairspray is pretty fantastic, minus the very strong scent (which fades after a little while).  I use it in the morning, pretty sparingly, and my curls hold up like champs all day.  Here is a pic of my hair in the afternoon (about 6 hours after applying.)

Rock Your Hair hairspray

Please excuse the frizz.  Also, why does my eye look so wonky?

Anyways…

And as a girl who has dyed her hair pretty much every color of the rainbow, I love me a spray-on leave-in conditioner.  This Miracle stuff is nice, love the smell, but haven’t noticed a ton of extra moisture.  But I will definitely use the entire bottle.

So overall, I was actually really impressed with this product line!  Like I said, if you are someone who wants some added oomph to your hair, I cannot recommend the Bombshell Hair Powder enough.  Also the Hairspray is pretttaaay good.  The rest are all worth giving a try.

*I was given these products to try and review complimentary, but these opinions are 100% my own.

What are some of your favorite volumizing products?

April Beauty Favorites

Well hello, there.

april favorites

It’s already time for April Favorites, and I’m not sure where this year is going.  It’s like.. May(ish.)  MAY!  It’s also the time where my mom’s birthday, dad’s birthday, father’s day and mother’s day all clump into one big cluster of gifts and cards, but my parents are pretty amazing so I try not to complain.

But you know this means I have to buckle down on my own personal shopping.. which… uhhh…

Didn’t happen this month.

april favorites lips

To be fair, only one of these lip products is new.

milani pink punch

And it’s SO PRETTY!! Milani’s Fruit Punch has been my obsession lately, it is the most perfect Barbie pink color, and it smells like watermelons.  Perfection for springtime, and I love love love it.  Holler at your drugstore lipsticks.

The rest of the lip products got cut off (womp womp), but all I will say is I was a big hater on the NYX Megashine lipgloss when I first got it, and now I’m a believer.  This color is “beige”, except you and I both know it’s actually pink.  But it’s a lovely shade of blush/nude, and it’s great for days when you just want a kiss of color and not the full monty.

april favorites eyes face

Two of these products are newbies: The Wet’n'Wild eye shadow trio (in Walking on Eggshells) and the Rimmel Scandal Eyes liner in Nude.  This trio is amazing for a neutral eye look, and the crease and lid colors blend beautifully.  The Rimmel eyeliner has been strictly for lining my waterline (how many times can I say “line” in one sentence…) but it has been CRUCIAL during this pesky allergy season.  I feel like an extra on Half Baked with all the Visine I’ve been pouring into my eyeballs.

To check out the rest, click to watch this month’s video!

Don’t forget to leave me a comment and let me know what some of your favorites were this month!  And let me know if you’d like to see a non-beauty favorites post/video like the ones I’ve done in the past. I’m not sure those are as exciting, but I have a few rando things I’ve been loving lately that don’t come in a shiny package or smell like candy.

…Or do they?

Collective Beauty Haul

So before I *really* enforced my “no more buying new beauty products” rule…. I bought a few more new beauty products.  However, from this point on, I am making it VERY CLEAR to myself that I must use up what I’ve got before I do any more damage in the colorful cosmetic isles of Target or CVS.

However… this was then, that is now.

I’m sure you’ve heard the buzz around the Revlon “Nearly Naked” line in the last few weeks, and if not, let me be the first.  This line is very much like the Urban Decay “Naked” (um, hello identical font) concept and is meant to feel like you’re wearing nothing at all.  This worried me at first, since I tend to shy away from “sheer coverage” products.  However, after multiple reviews about the build-ability-factor of this line, I was very much intrigued.

nearly naked

I chose to pick up both the foundation and powder (because us oily-skinned girls can NEVER have too much powder) and I’m actually completely in love with both.  The foundation is almost the exact same color as my skin, and blends in effortlessly with a very light but medium-coverage finish.  I do need a little concealer after I apply it, just for the stubborn marks and scars, but overall, it’s a ‘beaut of a foundation.  And the powder is also very light, but kind of a beast in the long-lasting category.  I applied this in the morning on my first run, and it stayed put way into the afternoon.

And just who would I be without some lip products… I picked up another of my Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains (obvi) and this time in Rendezvous.  This little gem is possibly the winner of the whole bunch.  If you’re someone looking to try some of the orange/coral spring beauty trends, I would absolutely suggest starting here.  The color is very buildable, and not too shocking of a color.  I’ve been wearing it non-stop, so expect it to pop up again in next month’s favorites fo sho.

The Color Whispers are another new obsession, this one in Lust for Blush only adds to my love.  It is one of the prettiest nude/pinks I’ve ever worn and it smells like straight Fruit Loops.  FRUIT LOOPS, PEOPLE.

To check out the rest, here’s a “quick” video…

And if you need me I’ll be doing my best to not drive past a Target or CVS for the next month or so.

Have you picked up any new products you’d like to share?  Not that I should even ask, because we all know where that will lead…
