March Beauty Favorites

Remember when I used to post these, like, regularly? Also I made videos for a while… that was fun.  Not to say I won’t ever do that again, but frankly they take a metric crapton of time and a computer that is much faster than the one we have at home.

Alas I’m reinstating my beloved beauty favorites now that I’ve become reacquainted with blogging, so here you have it:

1 march beauty favorites

I tried to keep it pretty short, so I stuck with my top five.

2 march beauty favorites

1. Michael Todd True Organics // Knu Anti Aging Face Lift. Ok, so yes. This stuff is pretty expensive. In fact, it’s probably the most expensive face lotion I’ve ever owned. BUT… my mom gave it to me after she purchased it on Living Social and decided she didn’t like the smell. I, however, absolutely love it. In fact, I think I might have to get a second job so I can afford to re-purchase it when it runs out. My skin is really oily and very sensitive, so when I find something that works, I cling onto it for dear life. It goes on like whipped cream and is absolutely wonderful on the skin. They actually have a slew of other moisturizers that I might have to try before I buy this one (the moisture-lite is only $29, hello.) But if you’re an anti-aging freak like me and have a tendency to invest in skin products, I’d say give this one a try.

2. Real Techniques // Miracle Complexion Sponge. I was a die-hard Beauty Blender lover since the first time I tried it, and never thought I’d find another that I loved as much. Well I have. And it’s like.. a quarter of the price. This little gem is from my favorite brush line and costs a whopping $5.99! I know. I use mine for all over foundation application as well as just blending concealer under my powder foundation. It’s truly an amazing product. Buy it. Use it. Love it.

3.NYX // Butter GlossTHESE GLOSSES! Seriously. I bought a three pack at Ulta for like $4 a few months ago and haven’t looked back since. They add a beautiful wash of color without having to deal with the drama of lipstick and they last a pretty long time, too. I also really love the consistency of them and the smell. These are in the running with my beloved Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains from Revlon, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I have every single color by the end of the summer.

Left to right: Apple Strudel (my favorite!), Cherry Pie, and Merengue.

4. BUXOM // Full-On Lip Polish (in Jennifer) I’ve had a few of these guys throughout my life as a self-proclaimed lip gloss junkie (I think Katie was my favorite for about 3 years), but I’ve found a new name that I can’t live without. Her name is Jennifer. People actually call me Jennifer (or Jen) a lot, and I’m assuming it’s just because Jessica and Jennifer are like 90% of the names of girls born in 1982, but hey, whatever. This color is so absolutely gorgeous, and actually very much on trend with the whole “Orchid” pantone color of the year for 2014 thing. These glosses are tingly, minty and have a slight plumping effect. Or at least I feel like my lips are plumper after I put it on,and don’t we all just want to feel like Jessica Rabbit for a little?

5. It’s a 10 // Miracle Leave-In Product I actually got this as a sample in my Birchbox and immediately exclaimed it was the best sample I’d ever received. As someone who blow-dries, curls or straightens her hair pretty much daily, my poor tresses need some tender lovin. This stuff makes such a huge difference. They say it has 10 benefits (you can check the site if you really want to know them) but for me, the number one benefit is that my hair is so much less frizzy at the ends. I have now added water to this twice to get every last drippity-drop out of the bottle so I think it’s time to suck it up and buy a new one. Wah.

So those are my five this month, anything worth noting you’d like to share? A winning lottery ticket would be nice.

June (& Other Summer) Beauty Favorites

june beauty favorites

So I struggled with this video a lot, because of two reasons:

1. I haven’t really bought anything new in the last month since it’s summer and I tend to wear less makeup anyways.

2. We are trying our damnedest to save for some upcoming trips and vacations that we’ve got planned, and it’s only going so-so.  We have a weakness for weeknight trips to local restaurants when it’s too hot to cook, even on the grill, and we likey our booze.

And just to prove this, I actually filmed this whole thing twice because the first video was pretty much unwatchable. I don’t know if it was the humidity or the lack of excitement for the bigger lack of new fancy products, but I came across slightly bitch-facey.  And everyone who knows me knows that I’m never anything short of delightful ;)

All that aside, I did have quite a few items that I loved for the month of June, and plan to embrace for the rest of the season.  Aaaand here they are:

lipstick

For LIPS, I’ve been loving the shade Cherish from my usual faves, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains.  It’s more of a blue-pink than my all-time fave, Honey, but it’s a great alternative for summer when you want more of a color pop.  And I recently discovered this ‘beaut from the Maybelline Vivids line in BrazenBerry.  It’s shockingly purple in the tube, but once it hits your lips it becomes the most wonderful shade of fuchsia.  I LOVE these Vivids lipsticks- everything from the way the glide on to the lasting power of the color.  Definitely rocking these for the next few months.

For EYES, I’ve been loving this trio from Wet’n’Wild in Walking on Eggshells.

eye shadow

The colors are very neutral, but with some fine shimmer.  As you can see, I’ve been wearing the eyelid color a TON. I’ve said it before, but these W’N’W eye shadows are one of the best buys around.  The quality is amazing and they usually run for just a few bucks.

Speaking of a great buy, I’m obsessed with these little gems lately, too.

nailpolish

These are the Sinful Colors Professional line of NAIL COLOR, and for $2/ea, I can’t find a reason to stop buying them.  My favorite is the hottest pink I’ve ever seen (in 24/7), and even though they go on a little heavy (really only need one coat), I love the color selection.

For FACE and SKIN, I have two noteworthy items:

skin

I started using this Tea Tree Oil a few months ago, and am officially addicted.  I mix mine with a little water in a travel bottle, and swipe it across my face on a cotton pad every night to help kill bacteria and treat trouble spots.  I’ve also started using it for other areas as well, check out the video for more on that.

This True Match LUMI Foundation by L’oreal was hiding in my makeup bag since I tossed it aside a few months back, but recently made a reappearance when I realized my skin had gotten a little too dark for my regular foundations.  It’s a very dewy-light consistency (not as light as the Revlon Naked Foundation), but it has been a great option for my skin since the humidity is trying to kill me. The coverage is light-medium, so keep your concealer handy.

And lastly, for HAIR, these two guys are keeping me from shaving my head:

haircare

The L’oreal Total Repair 5 Damage-Erasing Balm was a random purchase when I was looking for something to help the ends of my hair calm the hell down, and this Amika Oil Treatment was a gem from my last Birchbox.  One is decidedly less expensive than the other, but let me tell you, this Amika stuff is liquid gold and I don’t care if it makes me physically ill to purchase the full size when the time comes.  It’s magic, y’all.

To find out more about these products and what I think/how I use them, check out this month’s video!

What are some of your recent and summer beauty favorites?  But don’t tell me anything too good because I’m NOT SHOPPING…. (ok, fine you can tell me.)

New Beauty Box by Target

Allow me to propose a simple math equation:

Beauty products + Target + Home delivery – $5 = my happy place.

That is the exact calculation that went through my head when I caught wind of Target’s first-ever “Beauty Box” when I saw it pop up on my Facebook feed. (This one is unfortunately sold out.)

For $5, I figured why not, and my shopaholicism has never served me better.

Hello, friend.

target box 2

So as you can see, there were a few samples, three of which were basically full-sized.  (Or at least a hell of a sample size.)

I’ve already used the razor (Gillette, Venus & Olay), and that alone is worth the $5.  The only down-side is that it has those little “wings” around the blades that are like, made of lathery goodness and moisture, and once that runs out I’ll probably not love it nearly as much.  I guess that’s the whole point behind it though, forcing you to replace your blades like an actual person who cares about really smooth legs and doesn’t keep the same ones on for a year until you realize that you might give yourself Tetanus soon…  Well played, Venus.

TB4

Now I’ve used these guys before and actually really liked them. They’re kind of a b to put on, but once applied they stick around forever (no pun intended.)  Although I’m currently going through a pink/nude nail phase, I did slap these puppies on this weekend and the 15 year old punk-rocker in me kind of loves them.  (Bouncing Souls? Argyle? Anyone…?)  They’re a leeeeetle loud for me, but definitely very fun.

TB3

I am most excited about this acne cream by LA ROCHE-POSAY (Effaclar Duo).  I’ve heard/seen great things about this stuff before and have been wanting to try it.  My skin has been rather well-behaved lately, but now I’ve surely gone and cursed myself by saying that, so I will let you know how this stuff works once my face inevitably revolts.

I did use the BB Cream by L’Oreal this weekend, and it was ok.  But I’ve never found a BB Cream like the Skin79 one, so I didn’t expect much.  And I haven’t even used the Fekkai Glossing Cream yet, but I’m optimistic about it since I usually love anything that smooths my hair and makes it shiny.

So overall, I’d say I’m a pretty happy camper, especially for $5.  I’m not sure if/when the next one will be coming out, but I hope they keep the price point.  Let me know if you’ve heard anything!

Anyone else snag one of these guys?  If so, did you get the same shtuff?
