If I Could Live Anywhere…

At this moment I can say with total certainty that if I could live anywhere in the world, I would live in Portland, Oregon.

Now before you tell me the same thing every single other person has told me in response to that statement (“BUT OMG IT RAINS AAAALL THE TIME!”), let me stop you right there.

Because I was also informed that it like, never snows there, and that little nugget of information is what I call a trump card.

True, I was there for a very short time (for work, no less) but something about that magical city just spoke to my soul.  And it said “you want to live here.”  Or “go to Voodoo Doughnuts.” I don’t know, maybe both.

Either way, these two friends above are what they call the “Old Dirty Bastard” (crushed oreos, peanut butter and chocolate frosting amazingness) and the “Oh Captain, My Captain” (plain glazed with vanilla frosting and Captain Crunch aka OHMYGAWD.)

Yes. Please.

To burn off the approximately 14,000 calories I ingested whilst eating the OCMC doughnut (I should also mention I washed it down with a delicious beer), my coworker and I walked around the Saturday Market and the Waterfront Park.

It was a really impressive gathering of vendors, but unfortunately we caught the tail end of it and they started closing down. Definitely something I would like to check out again, and earlier.

The next day was mostly work, and we asked for recommendations on where we should go. A few recommendations for shopping and authentic “keep Portland weird” culture were intriguing, but I was hoping for something more outdoorsy. Thankfully one of the locals highly recommended we check out the Multnomah Falls.

One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, without a doubt. Standing here was pretty much when I decided I never wanted to leave.

Oh, and did I mention that like, everyone there has a dog, and pretty much everyone wears glasses and rocks the hell out of some casual wear pretty much like  ALL THE TIME.

Also there are shit ton of breweries. This one was awesome. Highly recommend the Saison.

And the grilled pear and goat cheese pizza.

So, that pretty much sums up my brief love affair with the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen. Will we actually move there? Probably not. But Brandon has certainly been made aware of the special place in my heart that goes by the name of Portland, and I think he and Mac would eventually adjust. Did I mention the dogs and beer? Mmkay.

  1. Love it! I haven’t yet made it to Portland, but your pics are inspiring me. We did a Southwest trip this year– maybe a Northwest trip is in order next?

  2. Well, I’m coming with you.

  3. So jealous of your trip! I need to spend some time in Portland consuming ALL the beer. Great pics!!

  4. Oregon is beautiful. I haven’t been to Portland yet, but I’ve been down to the coast and it’s just amazing. It’s also not all that far from Vancouver . . . just saying. :)

  5. Oregan is beautiful. I’ve never been to Portland, but I’ve been down to the coast and it’s just amazing. It’s also not all that far from Vancouver . . . just saying. :)
