A Few Things Friday

I just want to start off by saying how much I loved all your feedback on my last post.  I know that the old expectations of women to just pop out babies by 30 is a little outdated, but I still struggle sometimes with the concept of waiting and taking my time to decide what I want to do. But your comments really meant a lot to me and I appreciate your thoughts on the matter.  Love you, mean it.

Now to AFTF:

So this happened.

Apparently my dog has entered the phase which I like to call “Sorry I’m kind of an asshole.”  Not really sure what happened, but he’s been pretty bad lately, and it’s getting really old.  I read up on it (because the internets know everything) and I found out that Australian Shepherds go through a “teenage phase”, where they basically forget everything you ever taught them and their sole purpose becomes making you want to call them names of which include lots of swear words.

It’s supposed to sort of “work itself out” with some positive reinforcement and a whole lot of patience.  So I’m hoping we’ve only got another month of this at the most, otherwise he may not be getting playmate for a little while longer.  But having said that, I was already thinking I was due for some new kicks and have it narrowed down to these three:

1. Brooks Pureflow

2.  Nike Air Pegasus

the fact alone that these shoes look like cotton candy for your feet makes me think I pretty much need them.

3.  Asics Gel Lyte

source for all

I need to try them all on again and go somewhere other than Dicks, who apparently doesn’t carry shoes for people with feet bigger than a size 8.  I wear an 11 so that’s just not going to cut it.

Speaking of making the cut… here’s my August Birchbox:

Pretty decent lot this month, if I do say so myself.  I got a perfume sample, eyeliner, lash conditioning wash (to remove stubborn eye makeup), and a Schick razor.   Anything that involves a new razor is an automatic win and eyeliner is always a good time.  I’m one of those people who keeps eye makeup until it’s potentially a bio hazard, so it’s a good excuse for me to purge those 2 3 4 Cover Girl eyeliners from college high school.  I know.  It’s a sickness.

I was going to also tell you about a story from dinner this week where I got sassed by a waiter about some sub-par mussels, but I think I’ll save that for later.  Let’s be honest, most of you probably checked out somewhere around my dog being a jerk, so let’s not drag this out any longer.

You’re welcome :)

Happy Weekend, loves! xo

PS- please do feel free to share any shoe recommendations! I have been wearing Nike Frees for about a year now and I really like them, but I think I’m ready for something with a little bit more support.

  1. There is a shoe/sneaker place in the target complex my niece swears by and they fit you. Can remember the name but Google will :)

  2. i just got a pair of nike pegasus and love them. i wear 11′s as well and had to get an 11 1/2 but they are SO comfortable!

  3. I don’t have shoe recommendations as I’m kind of anti-Nike for a few reasons, one being they never fit me right, but I had to chime in on the animal thing. I JUST had this talk with my mom last night about naughty animals, as I think it’s some sort of universal chemistry shift with the moon or something. Chauncey and Monie have both been uncharacteristically neurotic and naughty this past week. I swear it’s something in the air. Or they’re all just being a-holes, but whatever. I have a broken lamp and perfectly placed hairballs thanks to the furry freak. You’re not alone.

  4. My first birchbox supposedly just shipped…I’m foaming at the mouth with excitement!

  5. Give Mizunos a try – a little pricier but so worth it!

  6. That razor is crazy sharp! I’ve nicked my knees at least a few times (and I rarely do that with a Venus) while using it, be careful! But, your legs feel CRAZY SMOOTH after using it. :)

  7. This is just for you:

Enjoy, I got quite the giggle.

  8. I wear Mizuno’s Wave Nirvana. I have version 5, but I think they’re all the way up to 8 now. I have hellaciously flat feet and they provide lotsa good support.

  9. Awww… way to keep us hanging. :p

I hope it’s a good weekend! PS- our reunion is getting so close!

  10. i’ve been really liking the Asics GT-2170s. they’re considered neutral or for slight overpronation (low arches), are pretty light, nicely padded (if you like that – some don’t), wide, roomy toe box, and some rad neon colors :)

  11. I say go with the Brooks! (I’m a Nike hater & never was all that impressed with Asics. Shoe snob? Probably.) Their Pure Project line is pretty awesome. Other recs: Saucony Ride (neutral shoe but lower drop than average) or the lovely Kinvara. Oooh ahhh, sooo many colors :)

  12. I would pick the Nike’s, but I’m kind of a Nike whore so I don’t know if my opinion can be trusted. They are the only shoes I have ever been able to run in that don’t cause me some kind of pain.

Also, is it wrong that I find it hilarious that Mac is going through a “teenage phase?” Just be glad it’s a phase, unlike my dog who just randomly decides to be an asshole every now and then. Apparently it’s more exciting that way.

  13. I tried on a whole bunch of lightweight shoes recently and ended up with the Reebok Optimals. Love them! I was never a Reebok person but these are great! Try ‘em ;)

  14. Please tell me you have seen http://dog-shaming.com/. Hilarious.

I have a pair of Nikes right now but I really love my Brooks!

  15. I wear Saucony ProGrids and love them. They’re pretty stable, good for running (if you’re getting back in to that kind of thing)…a good middle of the road shoe. That eyelash wash sounds amazing. I am notorious for leaving mascara on too long- it’s hard to get off with regular cleanser!

  16. I love my Nike Frees but I’d be open to trying something new, haha

Does no one else think that your shoe is making a heart shape??? hahaha

  17. Awww but he’s so cute! Surely he’s not capable of such antics.
The Pegasus is a very good Nike neutral running shoe. Besides being cute, it would probably be a great shoe for you since you’ve been running in Frees previously. Just my two cents :)

  18. I’ve been an asics girl for a couple of years now – but I hear really good things about Brooks. I should go to a running store and get fitted again, as it’s been like seven years since that happened, but I despise paying full price for shoes when I can buy them for so much cheaper on the internet.

  19. I have always loved Ascics, but recently got a pair of Brooks that I absolutely love. I wear 10′s normally, but in running shoes they put me in an 11 or 11 1/2 depending on the shoe. Do you have Fleet Feet out your way? I have never had a problem finding bigger sizes there & they will fit you in the right shoes too.

Oh & I have an Aussie mix … Randomly she tries to dig to China in my yard & bring the dirt back in my house … Frustrating!
