Marvel-ous Weekend

Morning, y’all.  Happy Monday and all that jazz.  Speaking of “jazz”, did anyone else watch the Will Ferrell SNL this weekend?  It was meh at best (sorely disappointed) but the “Broadway Sizzle” skit had my almost peeing my pants.  Frankly, I should have been close to pants-peeing-status the whole time, but once again, one of the greats lets me down.  Sigh.

What did not let me down this weekend was the cinematic splendor that is The Avengers.

Once I heard Joss Whedon was directing, I was on board.  Not only was I a die-hard Buffy fan, but I love his knack for writing strong female characters.  My dad was also a huge Marvel comics fan as a kid, which I always thought was so cool, and the love for all things super hero has definitely rubbed off on me.  (X-Men 2 is probably in my top 10 favorite movies ever.)  But anyways, Avengers.  Amazing.  The special effects were everything I wanted and more, and thankfully I was still able to follow along without having seen Hulk or Thor.  (Although after reveling in the beauty that is Chris Hemsworth, Thor has quickly shot up to the top of my must-see list.)  ScarJo was pretty bad-ass as Black Widow, Chris Evans = eye candy, RDJ stole the movie as Iron Man but I have to say my favorite character in the movie was, hands-down, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner aka the Hulk.  I wasn’t really sure how that casting was going to work out, but he was perfect.  Dare I say I may have a little Hollywood crush on him?
So in short: go see it.  It had all the elements of a corny super hero movie, but in just the right proportions.  I’m sure Stan Lee was very happy with the finished product.

After totally nerding out on Saturday, I spend Sunday snuggling with this guy

And stuffing my face with waffles, bacon and mimosas at a Mother’s Day brunch at the little bro’s house.  As you can see, the whole “clean up your diet” thing is working out really well for me.  Oh well, it’s Monday, and I’m planning on going to a new yoga studio tonight thanks to the wonders of Groupon.  Baby steps…

Take care, brush your hair!

  1. OMG, the digital short one was pretty damn funny.

You look all earth-mommy. When are you having a baby?

  2. You were a Buffy fan? Have we made this connection yet? I saw all of the reruns over a summer and fell in love with Spike. Not Angel… Spike. I like the ass holes.

And I tried to watch SNL this week, but kept falling asleep as I was sitting up with my laptop. I took it as a sign and went to bed. Guess I’m glad to hear I didn’t miss much?

  3. I was never into comics or superheros when I was a kid. I was always really weird like that – so I don’t even know what The Avengers is about. I did like the old Batman reruns though. Those were classic. Does that count?

  4. I should probably go see that movie, huh? I keep hearing good things. :) I never really got into the comic thing, but who am I to turn down a good movie? I think the whole “cleaned up diet” thing is null on holiday weekends, yes? This means that I can stuff my face again on Memorial Day. Perfect.

  5. Mmhmm Thor is also on my must see list. You look so cute with that babay. Also, I’ve seen every episode of Buffy and Angel, fyi.

  6. I must admit I never got into the comic thing. I haven’t seen any of those movies :(
I’m failing at the diet clean up as well. Hardcore. Sigh.

  7. Not that I think your failing. That came out wrong.

  8. I saw Avengers this weekend and while I wasn’t that impressed with the plot, I was still super entertained. And yes, THOR.

  9. I think I stopped watching SNL circa 2002. When Fallon and Fey left, I went with them!

  10. My SO is a comics geek and we go see pretty much all the superhero movies opening weekend (excluding Green Lantern because it was a dud). We may or may not have Thor hammers, Hulk gloves, Captain America shields and other paraphernalia. He dressed up as Nick Fury for Halloween last year and only a couple people knew who he was. I doubt he’d have that problem if he did it again this year.

I really enjoyed the Avengers. I typically don’t like watching 2+ hour movies, but it flew by. The humor was my favorite part, I could definitely hear Whedon’s voice. I wonder how the incredible success will affect his cachet as a writer/director. Maybe he’ll get a TV show that doesn’t get cancelled after one season (still sad over Firefly)?

Hulk was my favorite, too. Off to play with the Hulk hands (there’s sound!).

  11. I dont even follow superhero kind of stuff but feel like I need to see it since everyone and their mom is saying how wonderful it was.

    The baby? OMG. I want.

Ok, not really but you get what I mean of how cute he is.

  12. I’m not a superhero fan, but waffles, bacon and mimosas? Bring it on!
