Oh hi.
Meet Ponce de Leon. He’s the newest addition to my little bro’s family.
Newest BFF to Magellan.
And teeniest, tiniest, sweetest little thing I’m pretty sure I’ve ever seen.
This picture is really just so you can completely understand how small and fluffy he is. Also now you know the truth that I usually don’t wash my hair or wear makeup on the weekends. Lucky Brandon!
Anyways, I spent most of the day Saturday at my little bro’s house (pictured above) for his wife’s birthday. It was nice spending some time with them, eating my weight in guacamole, and snuggling with that sweet little thing.
Also this sweet little thing.
Did your head just explode? I know, it was almost too much cuteness in one place to bear. Somehow I managed.
Other than making an embarrassing amount of cute baby/animal reaction noises this weekend, I also had a lovely evening with two of my best girls Friday night, including a box of wine (we keeps it classy) and a rousing game of American Idol karaoke. Then Brandon and I spent most of Sunday relaxing and catching up on Shameless. I actually made it to Church again this week for Palm Sunday, and I forgot that mass is a little longer than most. Coffee beforehand would have been a wise choice, but hey, it’s all a sacrifice for the big man.
To celebrate the fact that I stayed awake, I made one of my favorite breakfasts when I got home. One of the best things about this breakfast is it allows me to quote one of my favorite scenes from 40-Year-Old Virgin, which is always a good time.
That’s right. Some fraaaaaaaaaanch toast!

I picked up a loaf of sourdough at the grocery store this weekend and holy crap, I will never use any other kind of bread for french toast ever again. And obviously you need copious amounts of bacon alongside or what’s the point? #JessLaw
Sourdough French Toast
You’ll Need:
4 slices of sourdough bread
3 whole eggs
1 cup milk
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 T light brown sugar
T butter
Trader Joe’s sugar, chocolate & coffee bean grinder (optional)
Directions: Heat butter in a large skillet over med heat. Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla and brown sugar in a large bowl or baking dish. Soak each piece of bread in the egg mixture for at least 30 seconds. Carefully lift coated bread with a slotted spatula and place on the skillet. Cook each side for about 5 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown. (I like mine a little more on the well-done side, so I always let it go an extra minute or two until it gets pretty dark.) Serve with maple syrup, or whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Sprinkle with a few cranks of the Trader Joe’s sugar, chocolate & coffee bean grinder if you are lucky enough to have one of these little gems!
So that’s it for me, friends. I hope you all had nice weekends! I only have three days of work this week, so maybe I’ll step it up and get back to blogging more than twice a week…. or I’ll spend my time getting a pedicure and buying way too many things at Costco. Either way.
Happy Monday!

Oh good lord. That duckling is just about the cutest thing ever. My mom has “her” ducks that she feeds and I’m pretty much banned from contact with babies, as I would probably squish them to death (accidentally and totally out of love.) We can’t take any chances though.

I know, I had a flash to Lenny from Mice & Men when they told me I had to hold on tighter so he didn’t jump out of my hands. (The duck, not the baby. I held on to him tightly so no one could steal him away.)

Omg!!! One of my bffs is OBSESSED with ducks. She wants to live somewhere where she can have one! haha she would be so jealous!

Thank you, thank you. I’d like to thank nature for making such cute fluffy animals, and my brother and his wife for making such an amazing little person.

Awwww… the duckie!
When we were in elementary school, one of our teachers brought in their little ducks for us to play with one year. They are so freakin’ cute…

Baby ducky!!! I’m not sure why I go batshit insane over little animals (more so than little people, ack), but I cannot help it. Your fraaaaaanch toast looks superb!

I’m still trying to figure out why your brother got a duck? But yes totally adorable, and hooray for baby snuggles over the weekend!
April 2, 2012 at 10:32 am
Also, the cat won’t eat it?
April 2, 2012 at 10:34 am
They live kind of out in the middle of nowhere and his wife had ducks growing up, so they got some last year. One wandered off a few months ago (sad face), so she really wanted to get another one and he finally caved
And they normally keep him in a little crate so he doesn’t get swallowed up by kittyface. Only allowed out on supervised occasions.

Your brother has ducks??? That’s amazing. So is french toast. And bacon. Too much amazingness, I can’t handle it on a Monday morning.

My dad used to teach and do the egg hatching and one year brought duckies home over Easter break…pretty sure I admired them afar like I do with animals now.

April 4, 2012 at 2:12 am
I fell asleep during Palm Sunday Mass (and I went in the afternoon). I know it’s longer than usual, but it seemed unfair of the priest to give a super long homily.
April 4, 2012 at 9:42 am
Squeeeeee!!! SO cute, Jess
April 4, 2012 at 11:16 pm
I saw the title of this post and kept saying “I want some freeeeeench toast” over and over again. God, she is so obnoxious in that role, I love it. Get your freak on.
Ponce is too cute and so tiny but your nephew is even cuter
