Don’t you love how I get awesome 90’s songs stuck in your head all the time? One of my many charming assets, I tell you. C&C Music Factory should pay me royalties.
Speaking of charming, while on my little weekend getaway to Philly, one of the places that was on my must-go list was El Vez. I actually really wanted to go here for my bachelorette party weekend, but it was all booked so we went elsewhere. (Which by the way- the elsewhere we went was La Viola in Rittenhouse. It was BYOB and fantastic. If you’re looking for really good authentic Italian food at a good price, you will find it there.) But back to El Vez. One of the perks was that I finally get to meet Krissie, who could not be any sweeter.
We started off by ordering Margaritas.
See? A margarita glass. One would think I’d wait until there was liquid in it, but there may have been some pre-gaming…just sayin’.
The first round were the El Vez margaritas (Cuervo Gold, triple sec and fresh lime juice) and they were delicious. STRONG. But delicious. The second round were the Grenada margaritas (Gold tequila, triple sec, fresh pomegranate juice and lime) and they were… meh. As Kacy said, they kind of tasted like tacos. Maybe you just had to be there.
Then came my favorite part of the meal: the guac.
This was phenomenal. Really fresh, lots of flavor, and my only complaint was that I didn’t order an entire bowl for myself. Although I suspect I ate most of it. Sorry, ladies. For our entrée, Kacy and I split the black bean enchiladas, and once again…. not the greatest. They were good, but I’ve had better.
Also my biggest disappointment had to be the salsa which was really just not very good. Mostly smoky flavor with little to no cilantro, and tasted like it could have come from a bottle in the grocery store. Authentic it was not. I did have a taste of one of the girls pulled pork soft tacos and it was really good. Apparently I am not a great orderer.
Overall, I’d say El Vez was decent. The drinks made me happy and the food was priced very reasonably. Although next time I’m in Philly I’d really like to try out a different Stephen Starr restaurant, Buddakan, which I’ve also heard great things about.

Despite getting a decent night’s sleep, yesterday was a little rough for me. I could definitely tell my body could have used a rest day after the 10,000 miles I walked in Philly between Saturday & Sunday. (PS when am I going to just accept I’m old and wear sneakers when I walk around cities? No one cares if my shoes are cute. Let it go, Jess. Let it go….) So as a result from what I’m sure was total dehydration, my legs cramped up like crazy in my noon class at the gym. In an attempt to try and prevent even more soreness the next day, I decided to go for a run when I got home to shake them out a little. And I have to tell you, it was really the best run I’ve had in a long time. I actually felt faster (which for most people is probably still slow) and lighter on my feet. The weather was unbelievably gorgeous and I felt amazing afterwards. Will I be able to walk tomorrow like a normal human? Probably not. But it will all be worth it once my booty is poppin’ from getting back into running.
And since I finally found my camera, which for a short time I thought was either left on the train, or stolen, here are two more of my favorite picks from the best trip eva:
Where was the last trip you took?

I love your makeup in the last picture. It looks old Hollywood glamour. Sexy!
The last trip I took was to Nashville. It was okay, I expected more. I want to go to London sometime in the next couple of years.
Glad you had a fun weekend!
August 23, 2011 at 11:17 am
Thanks girl
I would LOVE to go to London. I’d like to actually do a whole European adventure actually. Paris, London, Venice, Rome… here’s to winning the lottery so that can actually happen.

I know, Dc trip needs to be planned ASAP.
August 23, 2011 at 7:10 am
Aw, you guys are so frickin’ cute!
However, I’m having a really hard time understanding how a restaurant can screw up enchiladas… what???? I cannot even process this…
August 23, 2011 at 11:18 am
RIGHT?? So disappointing.
August 23, 2011 at 7:23 am
You look sooo pretty!
Bummer the restaurant wasn’t that good!! How does a mexican restaurant not have good salsa?? Fail.
August 23, 2011 at 8:33 am
You ladies look gorge! Also I’d heard El Vez was famous for their Margs and guac and not much else.
August 23, 2011 at 11:18 am
I seriously wish I would have just gotten a bowl of guac. Oh well, live and learn!
August 23, 2011 at 9:10 am

You guys are so cute. I love your dress!

August 23, 2011 at 11:19 am
I am def due for an NYC trip very soon.
August 23, 2011 at 9:50 am
Oh at El Vez I eat the guac as my meal. I had chicken tacos once that were decent but the guac….the guac…. sigh.
August 23, 2011 at 11:20 am
I will be dreaming of that guac for days. DAYS!
August 23, 2011 at 10:10 am
I love the pictures. You two are so cute.
Sucks about the margaritas. I’m sure I would have drank them anyway, but its still disappointing.
August 23, 2011 at 11:13 am
Looks like such a fun mini trip! That guac DOES look phenomenal! I went on a cruise back in July…I miss it…sigh.
August 23, 2011 at 11:30 am
Still fuming that I missed out on this…
Oh and “No one cares if my shoes are cute” WHAT! Blasphemy. I care!
August 23, 2011 at 11:46 am
Pod is really good sushi and the place just looks cool. Plus they are cool with you doing Sake bombs.
I loved hanging out with you guys! The chipotle chicken tacos were actually delicious, but maybe I have low Mexican food standards. Who knows. I am in for the DC trip! It’s been a long time since I’ve visited the area of my birthplace!
August 23, 2011 at 11:59 am
Who am I kidding, I’ll never give up the cute shoes
August 23, 2011 at 11:48 am
I did a dance to Everybody Dance Now in the 4th grade. Fun times!
And the best part of my weekend was being back in Atlanta…talk about homesick!
August 23, 2011 at 12:00 pm
I would like to see video footage of that please.
August 23, 2011 at 11:53 am
Fun! Sorry the food at the first spot wasn’t better, but with guac and margaritas, it couldn’t be toooo bad.
Sometimes being a foodie stinks – it makes me be a litlte too harsh on restaurants.
Great pics! Looks like fun.

I am still quite jealous of your weekend. I’ve never understood sub par enchiladas…you put lots of cheese on them and call it a day- you really have to try hard to screw that up. Can’t wait til we plan a big ol’ blogger trip.
August 23, 2011 at 10:01 pm
I’m a girl who’s enchiladas are not to be messed with. In fact, if I ever write a rap song, you can bet those lyrics will be in it. And i will perform it for you the day we meet.
August 23, 2011 at 8:31 pm
I went to Vegas last month for a long weekend and plan on going to Orlando for a quick weekend in October. I can’t wait, I could sorely use a vacation…again.
August 23, 2011 at 10:00 pm
I love Vegas. I really want to go back and visit soon!
August 23, 2011 at 10:10 pm
What fun pictures, I love your vacation. I don’t even remember the last time I went on one
August 23, 2011 at 11:01 pm
LOVE the LOVE pic. It looks like it belongs in a magazine!

Buddakan is amazing! If you ever get back to Philly, you should definitely try it out. El Vez is probably my absolute favorite restaurant. I’m sorry that it was just okay for you. If you go again, the sea bass tacos there are delicious (as is the Mexican chopped salad and the guacamole with crabmeat)!! My boyfriend got the enchiladas though and he really liked them.. maybe you just got a bad batch. I’m glad you had a good time in Philly!
August 25, 2011 at 11:12 am
I knew I should have gotten fish tacos. I would definitely give them a second chance though.
